Commitment Submission

Please share an example with us about a time when you have demonstrated commitment, whether in a job, in school, or as part of a group.

I have worked at a Kitchen & Bath remodeling business for the last five years: part-time for the last two years of High School and full-time for the past three years. During that time I was regularly on-time for work, put in a strong effort day after day, and was willing to work extra time as my manager saw necessary. As a result as started at the junior level of my team and rose up to be both a team leader and to do the digital marketing for the business. My boss, mentioned in the reference section, can further attest to my commitment in this role.

Eagerness Submission

Please tell us why you are eager to pursue a career in digital marketing, and specifically in Marketing Operations. Be sure to point out evidence of such eagerness.

As I advanced in the Kitchen & Bath business, I started to work directly with customers and became more curious about how to win customers and new business. I watched some videos about Google Ads and took a micro-course on it on Udacity. The business owner then allowed me to run some ad campaigns for our business. The effort was successful and has generated 10 new clients over the last 18 months. I have attached some files with more details about these campaigns.

I have really enjoyed this experience doing Google campaigns and it has made me really eager to pursue a career in digital marketing. I specifically want to enter Marketing Operations because I like building and managing processes and the function offers lots of opportunity for career and compensation growth.

Digital Tools

Working in digital marketing requires extensive use of digital tools. Please explain your familiarity and inclination in the use of software, whether that be Microsoft Office tools or smartphone apps. What are some of the tools you have used that make your day-to-day easier and more efficient?

In the Kitchen & Bath business we used a system called EContractor (econtractor.com) to create estimates, track hours and costs, and to bill customers. As I became a team leader I had to regularly use this tool to perform the estimation, cost tracking and billing functions. When this system was first introduced, I learned to use it by watching a number of YouTube videos and really digging in to explore the app - I learn best by doing! Now that I know how to use the tool effectively, it saves me and my team a ton of time as everything is in one spot and we can all reference the same information.

Collaboration

Working in digital marketing requires extensive collaboration with teammates and stakeholders. Please explain your experience and aptitude for collaboration with others. What are some ways you've worked directly with others to come to a solution, or work together on a project?

In my role in the Kitchen & Bath business I grew to lead a team of three (myself and two others). I had to learn about how to attend to the needs of my colleagues and ensure they are motivated to work hard. I also grew into interacting with customers and learned how to ask questions and be a good listener to ensure I understand what they are looking for in the project.

Often times in kitchen & bath remodeling—particularly in tile work—there are challenges on how to deal with irregular floor and wall shapes and how to provide the best end product for the customer in these situations. To solve these types of situations, I had to first ask a lot of questions to figure out exactly what the potential issues might be. Then I had them provide me with measurements and dimensions, and worked directly with the installation contractors to ensure enough product would be provided with room for mistakes that inevitably might come up. Attached are some designs I did that display creative solutions to such challenging situations.
